About the role
The Lecturer is responsible for planning and delivering language teaching within the Sub-Faculty, including marking work and participating in oral examinations.
The postholder will be responsible for delivering up to 16 hours of language teaching per week, equally divided between Galician and Spanish, focusing on both written and oral skills. They will develop teaching materials, assist in course planning in consultation with relevant faculty, and support student learning through regular assessment and feedback. The role also involves promoting Galician within the institution through events and outreach activities, participating in oral examinations and intensive language courses, and providing reports on student progress. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with pedagogical development (with an annual allowance provided) and contribute to the administrative work of the sub-faculty as required.
About you
The successful candidate will possess native or near-native fluency in both Galician and Spanish, and hold an undergraduate degree in Galician, Spanish, Translation, or English (taught in Galician or Spanish), with a substantial component in literature, language, translation, or writing. They will have experience in teaching Galician as a foreign language at university level, and a demonstrated interest in, or experience of, teaching Spanish as a foreign language.
A strong commitment to excellence in language pedagogy is essential, including familiarity with current teaching methodologies and the development of original teaching materials.
You will have good organisational and interpersonal skills, be committed to high-quality teaching and student support, and be prepared to work collaboratively across colleges.
Teaching materials will be provided to support the preparation of courses, especially in early modern literature.
