Spanish Language AssistantJob Description
Responsible to: The Head ofSpanish
Hours of Work: Expected to be a guarantee of26-28 lessons per week (34 weeks per year). Each year there will be a review inSummer term to discuss if there are business need changes relating to thenumber of lessons. Any change would be in consultation with the appointedcandidate.
Remuneration: £23.82 per lesson(inclusive of holiday pay)
Start date: As soon as possible, dependent upon thesuccessful candidate's notice period
Overall purpose of thepost:
• Work with pupils to improvetheir spoken fluency, overall language skills, cultural knowledge and enjoymentof Spanish learning.
• Provide support within the Modern Foreign Languagedepartment as required.
Mainresponsibilities:
• To enthuse pupils about Spanishspeaking countries and their cultures, routines and traditions.
• To work the timetable agreedwith the Head of Department.
• To arrive in good time andfully prepared for lessons.
• To be able to workindependently as well as part of a team.
• To fully plan, deliver andresource small classes of pupils to prepare them for the oral examination andimprove overall language skills, with particular emphasis on preparing pupilsfor GCSE and A-level examinations.
• To take the initiative inhelping to devise resources for the conversation lessons and to takeresponsibility for the overview and guidance of the A level Individual ResearchProject
• To insist on high standards ofwork, behaviour, attendance and punctuality from pupils.
• To record pupil progress, tomaintain registers and report on absences.
• To work with individuals, smallgroups or a whole class, as specified by the relevant Spanish teacher.
• To carry out internalexaminations and practice examinations.
• To keep up to date with changesto the curriculum as appropriate.
• To motivate, encourage andprovide constructive feedback to pupils.
• To attend training and meetingsas appropriate.
• To take responsibility for theSpanish Assistant's classroom, to decorate and update resources in consultationwith the Head of Department.
• To be pro-active about keepingup to date with current affairs in the Hispanic world.
• To participate in MFL events andactivities across the languages dept to promote a love of languages.
• To host Spanish 'Lunch clubs'for highly motivated pupils who would like to further improve their language ona voluntary basis.
