Fecha de publicación 05.11.2026
About this Role
About the School
University College School is an academically selective boys' independent school set in an attractive location in the heart of Hampstead, North London. Founded in 1830 to promote principles of liberal scholarship, UCS fosters independence of mind, values pupil individuality, and maintains a warm, diverse, and inclusive community.
The Junior Branch (pupils age 7-11) provides a friendly, supportive working environment with well-behaved pupils who are a pleasure to teach, alongside a highly supportive parent body.
The Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding classroom teacher to teach both French and Spanish to boys aged 8-11 (Years 4-6).
This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) fixed-term maternity cover position running from January 2027 through to April 2028. Working days will be Wednesday to Friday. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of the modern foreign languages curriculum within the Junior Branch, maintaining published schemes of work, setting regular assessments, and ensuring seamless continuity with both our Pre-Prep and Senior School departments.
About You
Qualified teachers are at an advantage, but we warmly welcome applications from qualified graduates with relevant school-based experience.
Excellent subject knowledge in both French and Spanish.
A passion for primary/junior language education and a commitment to inspiring young learners.
Strong organizational and administrative skills to oversee departmental budgets, resources, and reporting.
A flexible, collaborative approach and a desire to contribute to the wider co-curricular and supervisory life of the Junior Branch.
What We Offer
A competitive salary on UCS's own scale (above the national scale), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Fee concessions for children of staff educated within the UCS Foundation (subject to admissions criteria).
Financial assistance schemes, including travel expense loans and house purchase assistance schemes.
Heavily discounted membership to UCS Active, our private Health & Fitness Club.
A warm, collaborative faculty and excellent professional development opportunities.

Please submit your application online via the UCS page on My New Term.
Closing Date: Friday 20th November 2026 at 12:00 PM
Interviews: Week commencing 23rd November 2026
Note: We reserve the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date, so early applications are strongly encouraged.
