Surbiton High School is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Temporary Teacher of French and Spanish to join our vibrant Modern Foreign Languages Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate linguist to empower pupils, ignite a love of languages, and contribute to an outstanding academic and co-curricular programme.

About the Department

The Modern Foreign Languages Departmentis a dynamic team of 16 dedicated linguists, which is led by the Head of MFLand supported by individual Heads of Language. The Spanish Department comprisesfive teachers and a Foreign Language Assistant who delivers conversationsessions for KS4 and KS5 students. In Year 7, all pupils study French, German,Spanish and Latin before continuing with two languages in Years 8 and 9. Allpupils are required to take at least one language at GCSE and many opt to taketwo. All languages follow the Pearson Edexcel specification for IGCSE and thePearson Edexcel for A-level. Results are consistently excellent across allthree languages. In August 2025, 81% of Spanish IGCSE students achieved grades9-7 while 75% of A-level students earned A*-A grades. Language immersion beyondthe classroom is a key part of the curriculum. The Spanish Department organisescultural and linguistic trips to destinations such as Salamanca, Sevilla andBarcelona. Pupils also participate in inter-school competitions, such as LoveLanguages and The Global Challenge. In addition to this, the MFLdepartment hosts larger events, such as MFL days and evenings, to foster a loveof languages and engage with the local community.

• Deliver inspiring lessons across KS3, GCSE and A-level.
• Createa positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Engage in professional development and departmental initiatives.
• Supportpupils of all abilities to achieve their potential.
• Monitorprogress and provide effective feedback.
• Contributeto pastoral care as a Form Tutor or Deputy Form Tutor.
• Takepart in trips, enrichment activities and school events.
• Workcollaboratively with colleagues across the School.

WhatWe're Looking For

• A good honours degree in French or a relatedsubject.
• QTS or a recognised teaching qualification(desirable but not essential).
• Strong subject knowledge and excellent classroompractice.
• The ability to teach French at KS3, GCSE andA-level.
• The ability to teach Spanish (desirable but notessential).
• A passion for languages and pupil success.
• Strong communication, organisational and ICTskills.
• A collaborative and professional approach.
• High expectations for pupils and a commitment tosafeguarding.
