Job Description

We are looking to appoint a PTEA at the Spanish Department to support the department in preparing materials, working with small groups and providing one-on-one support to students.

This position is available starting in Mid-August, and the average working hour is 6-10 hours per week.

Island School is a highly successful IB school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1200 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, CP and BTEC programs. Currently based in temporary facilities in Sha Tin until August 2022 we will be returning to a brand new campus in the middle of the Hong Kong central business district. Here, facilities will include a world-class sports centre, maker spaces, open classrooms and a black box theatre.

Responsibilities:
  • Help support the Spanish Department
  • Prepare materials
  • Work with small groups and one-on-one with students
  • Focus on improving oral fluency with students
  • Work with the department to prepare extra-curricular activities related to Spanish.
  • Approximately 6 hours per week

Requirements:
  • High initiative, self-starter and self-motivated team player
  • Fluent in Spanish and English;
  • Enthusiastic and flexible person with good inter-personal skills
  • Having experiences of and confidence in working with young people in the 11-18 age group;
  • Capable of taking up assignments independently with minimum supervision.

As an Educational Assistant the successful candidate can expect to be treated by the students with equal respect to a teacher. They can expect that their opinion and input into the department will be sought, listened to and valued.
