Job DescriptionWest Island School is looking for an Educational Assistant - Spanish on a part-time basis to start in August 2025. This is an Hourly (Term-Time only) position, approximately 24 hours per week.
Responsibilities Teaching & Learning:
- Be familiar with the Spanish curriculum at IB MYP, IGCSE and IB Diploma level, methods of teaching and assessment, and the school's daily routine
- Understand age-specific characteristics of learning, particularly those associated with language learning and acquisition
- Provide assistance to students for effective learning, (e.g) clarifying instructions, answering questions, helping with equipment, and motivating students
- Support small group activities such as oral practice, differentiated writing tasks, guided reading, and group projects
- Provide individual assistance to any students who may need it
- Report on students' progress and any related information to the relevant Spanish teacher
Planning:
- Plan lessons together with the relevant Spanish teacher
- Plan student activities where appropriate as directed by the department
- Participate in departmental or year-level planning
Reporting to: Head of Spanish
Requirements - Native or near-native competence in the Spanish language, with accurate pronunciation in Castellano, and functional English
- Formal teaching qualifications, either completed or being completed will be an advantage
- Basic skills in using learning technology and developing teaching resources are essential
- Experience in working with children is desirable
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the Head of Department
- Be a team player who is willing to help, share ideas and resources
- Communicate with colleagues courteously to maintain a positive working relationship
- A caring, committed, and flexible approach to students is essential
- Help promote the school mission
- Contribute to Spanish extra-curricular activities and cultural events
