English - Spanish Interpreter

POSITION SUMMARY:

A English - Spanish Interpreter is responsible for facilitating interpretation sessions for Focus Interpreting clients in a professional, focused manner and utilizing the necessary equipment to provide accurate and complete interpretation.

Interpreters must possess and maintain a high level of skill, proficiency, and professionalism in interpreting. Due to the sensitive nature of much of the information processed during an interpretation session, a high degree of integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

• Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
• Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Focus clients.
• Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Fluency in English and target language.
• Skilled at communicating, both orally and in writing in English.
• Basic understanding of linguistics and different cultures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience in handling Medical Interpreting Calls

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for experienced candidates that have a mixture of required and preferred qualifications.

Required:

• Interpretation experience (Examples of interpretation experience: medical, court, or government interpretation. For languages of lesser diffusion, interpreting within their communities, family, congregation, or during missionary work.)

OR

• Professional interpreter certification or training.

Requirements

Will need to take a test for literacy in the target language.
